Fog and long distance lights combined

Monday, July 14th, 2008

I’ve mentioned before that I’m quite a fan of lighting, weather in house, ourside or speaking automotively. I enjoy the various types of lighting and I’ve found a light that can produce the penetrating wide spread needed for fog, but also the lighthouse type beam needed for the long road.

This light is not pretty. I’ve seen it in person as well and if you want the looks, look elsewhere. It isn’t particularly ugly, but the features it offers obviuosly require a compromise. The rectangular form doesn’t really appeal to me. Somehow I’m more at ease with round lights, and I find the dual shade of the covers so near each other quite ugly.

Despite what I have said, if you are looking for something useful which will help you in any situation, come rain, snow, for or simply good weather, these lights are for you. The lighting quality of the PIAA 940 makes up for any problems with looks, switching from fog to beam is especially rewarding using the in-cab switch.

Extang Tonneau CoverAs auto-accessories go, you usually end up dishing out a pretty large some for almost anything you buy. I just found a cool product which looks good, functions well, adds to road safety and… did I mention that it looks cool?

The
Putco Pure LED Tailgate Light Bar
(phew, long name) is basically a strand of LED lights available in red and white. I always loved LED because they emit a sharper, but less eye-straining light, so they manage to combine good looks and safety too.

I actually love tinkering with electronics, but sadly this doesn’t mean I’m good at it (which is a bit of an understatement) so for those of you like me the Picto Pure Led light is truly a cinch to install. If you have an outlet for hitch wiring the task will be a matter of seconds, but the manual and the color coded wiring won’t leave you dumbfounded anyway.

The equation gets better when you realize you can buy more than one strand to join them end to end, or even choose different colors for two rows. You can combine this with the three sizes available for endless combinations. My favorite is when two red strands are joined with a small gap between them. Whichever way you choose, it will be a fine addition to your truck’s behind which will surely get the heads turning.
